Math with Meaning

The Unicorn Workshop:  Where Math, Motivation, and Magic Meet

What If Every Student Believed They Were a “Math Person”?

Before we teach content, we have to shape belief.
Not just in our students—but in ourselves.

When I first started teaching math, I’ll admit—math had always come easily to me. But teaching it in a way that reached every student was another story. I had to learn to see math through their eyes. It’s about helping students make meaning—and that starts with how we see math and how we believe students learn best.

Before we can teach content, we have to shape belief.

Fear of math, fixed mindsets, and low confidence are some of the biggest barriers to student success—and they often go unaddressed.

What if your students weren’t afraid of making mistakes in math?
What if they believed they belonged—even before they got the right answer?

When students feel safe, seen, and supported in math classrooms, they take risks, ask questions, and engage more deeply. It’s about meaningful shifts that empower teachers to create spaces where students think, struggle, and grow.

Changing How We See Math — Changing How We Teach It

This workshop isn’t about quick tricks or test prep hacks. It’s a shift in philosophy. It’s about seeing math as more than numbers—recognizing it as a way to build thinking, curiosity, and confidence. It’s about meeting the needs of all learners—whether they have IEPs, 504 plans, or are gifted.

When teachers change how they see math and how students learn, everything changes. That’s when kids start becoming successful—and when teaching math becomes joyful again.

Belief, Belonging, and Growth

Reframe math learning around confidence, curiosity, and connection. Nurture belonging, boost participation, and foster deeper understanding. When teachers see their students light up with understanding, it reignites their passion for teaching.

Math growth isn’t just about numbers—it’s about mindset.
And when belief leads the way, student achievement follows.

Strategies That Spark Understanding, Motivation, and Engagement

Belief and mindset are the foundation—but we also need practical strategies that make math meaningful. In this workshop, we explore ways to bring math to life: using stories and real-world problems to make concepts stick, encouraging collaboration and discussion, and creating challenges that stretch thinking without creating frustration.

Students engage when they see purpose and relevance. They grow when they can connect ideas, test their thinking, and see their own progress. We’ll explore techniques for visualizing abstract concepts, using manipulatives or interactive tools, and guiding students to explain reasoning—not just find answers.

When teachers combine mindset with hands-on strategies, learning becomes deeper, more memorable, and more motivating. Students don’t just solve problems—they develop confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning that carries beyond the classroom.

If schools were permitted to have just one training, this is the one!

This training will help to raise test scores for your students, decrease discipline challenges, and improve classroom rapport. You will learn how to meet students where they are and lead them where they need to be, capture attention, and promote deeper learning.
